  • Great tips on how to create outdoor experiences in urban environments! It might be possible to create a project surrounding the lack of space in some areas. Maybe children can be a bit pro-active and create a block beautification project. Maybe they could create a mini-farmers market. Let the kids start a mini-farmers market. They can grow something simple like tomatoes or strawberries. This gives them a chance to think about what they are contributing to the land and a taste of a real tomato! You can’t beat that! Thanks for sharing!

    • What an awesome and innovative idea – a farmers market led by kids. Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

  • I hope many more urban youth will learn to swim and boat this summer.

I recently remembered one of the stupider things I’ve heard. When I wanted to partner with a group, such as Fresh Air Fund, to get inner city kids kayaking, the head of a community boathouse said, “If you take them off the street corner, they’ll bring the street corner with them.”

  • hay outdoor lovers my wife & I are sailing instructors we work with at risk youth. The programs FAST AND FUN is ran by the boys and girls club of venice,ca. my saying is changing lives one sail @ a time. Also sail boat fuel is real cheap it doesn’t cost much too fill a sail. PEACE
